JT The Brick Explains “What Blew Him Away” About Josh McDaniels’ Offense

The Raiders performed a high-stakes overhaul of their quarterback room in the offseason, and it was one that certainly took a lot of twists and turns.

Derek Carr was sent home. Tom Brady was supposed to replace him. Jared Stidham was supposed to come back. Both of those situations took unexpected turns, and the consolation prize was Jimmy Garoppolo.

Because Derek Carr had become such a sensitive topic among Raider fans, the transition to Garoppolo was one that came with a lot of outspoken opinions. Some thought the Raiders upgraded with Garoppolo and some thought he was a downgrade.

In the end, Josh McDaniels was the common denominator that ended up sabotaging both players.

JT The Brick was one of the strong voices in support of Garoppolo in the offseason and he addressed those opinions this week on his Raider Nation Radio program. He also talked about one of his biggest issues with the Raiders’ offense under McDaniels…

“The reason why Josh McDaniels got fired is because the offense was vanilla as it could be. It was one of the worst offenses in all of football with Jimmy Garoppolo, who is still a captain [and] still on the team, and we’re probably going to see him play at some point if we need him this year.

But what blew me away about the Josh McDaniels offense was that it wasn’t elaborate, and it should have been because the Patriot playbook with Tom Brady [was elaborate]… and they took chances. Now they had [Rob] Gronkowski, and [Julian] Edelman, and [Danny] Amendola, and [Wes] Welker, and [Randy] Moss at times… but what they did was they ran an aggressive offense because Tom Brady could change the play at the line of scrimmage.

I thought that Jimmy Garoppolo could do a lot of that, but Jimmy just wasn’t right this year. I wanted Jimmy to play great. I really got that one wrong and I’m not going to die on a hill for Jimmy, but I thought Jimmy Garoppolo was going to be at least even with Derek Carr and an upgrade in the red zone. I said that and he wasn’t.”

The good news is that fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell seems to be in good hands with McDaniels no longer in the building.

Interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree is building gameplans specific to the strengths of his rookie quarterback and the results have been encouraging so far.

If O’Connell ends up being a quarterback the Raiders can feel good about in the long term, maybe the offseason of 2022 won’t turn out to have been a complete disaster after all.

  1. Let’s get something straight, Carr wasn’t sent home he left because he couldn’t stand being benched. That is a BITCH move. Everything else I pretty much agree with.

    1. Josh sabotaged us, not on purpose. Pretty much just because he is a terrible head coach, as well as being a lousy offensive coordinator. His only success has come via Tom Brady. He should have never been hired. The Patriot way started with the tuck rule game. Hopefully the banishment of Josh will bring back the Raider way with Antonio Pierce leading the way !

    2. The b!tch move was crawling back to Carr after Brady shunnned Patriot west. Of course, anyone who isn’t an idiot could see Brady was washed last year

    3. You my friend should remain silent and be thought An imbecile rather than open your mouth and prove it.

    4. Nonsense. All reports were that they did not want him to be on the field or in the facility in case he got hurt there tripping down the stairs or something–his contract would have vested if he got hurt in any way while involved in any football activity. That’s why he was benched, and that’s why he left.

  2. Been a Raiders fan for over 4 decades and can say that our team as a whole has drastically regressed since the Jim Plunkett era. I give alot of props to Rich Gannon during his tenure as well, but since the tuck rule we have not been the same team. As a matter of fact I think that we have turned into hot garbage since the passing of Al Davis. I have spent too many days waiting for my team to get back tp their old form and have decided to start rooting for the Chiefs and their winning philosophy. Let’s face it, watching football is all about feeling good when your team does well. I am tired of feeling lost…..

    1. Your going to hregret turning into a raider hater they will be back the chefs yes chef will regress once the Fatman Reid moves on Kelseyville in love forget football now the qbs got a smirk and a target on his bk the going to be nailed by Crosby so goodbye traider we b raiders for life 😉

    2. How can you go from a Raider fan to a Chiefs, them and the donkeys are our most hated rival. We don’t need fair weather fans you will not be welcomed back to the Nation, you are a disgrace.

    3. If you’re a queefs👎🏾 fan then why are you on a RAIDERS 🩶🖤☠️🏴‍☠️💯 page? U just can’t stay away huh🤔 been a fan for 40yrs then just now decided to leave once the queefs 👎🏾 start winning? WHAT A 🤡

  3. Josh McDoofus sabotaged Carr. Joshy wanted his special Patriots crew, and when the game was good for Carr, suddenly the play calls were flat out mind numbingly stupid. I thought winning was the Raiders mantra. Just win baby! But Joshy was more interested in screwing over the team and the fans because he had to be in charge. Glad he is just a rotten bad memory.

    1. Aye lay some lots of the base where it belongs with Mark Davis he’s better with the ladies basketball team can cause less damage

  4. Look guys. I’m an old man who has been a Raider Nation guy for life.Let the haters go to Kansas City. I do miss the Jim Plunkett days. I lived in Los Angeles most of my early life. I moved up to Northern California and when I moved back to Los Angeles the Raiders came down. I went back up north to start logging and the Raiders followed me back. It was just meant to be. I now live in Indiana and I am still Raider Nation for life. Through the ups and downs, which there are many, I will die being a Raider Nation!

  5. Lets face it, Josh McDirty was only rewarding anyone who had ties with the Patriots. He was guarenteed his salary, brought anyone and everyone he could get from the Patriots and whom were ex-patriots. That’s the only way he had power over players. I believe he has little man syndrome, from coaching to being a husband. What a piece of crap! Raiders for life!
