Raiders Owner was Mark Davis Pleased with Sunday’s Win Over the Hapless Jaguars

The Raiders snapped a 10-game losing streak on Sunday and it might have been the most disappointing win in the history of the organization.

Prior to Sunday, the Raiders had a clear path to the top pick in the draft and an opportunity at one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. With the 19-14 win over the Jaguars, the Raiders fall to the sixth-overall pick and will have good opportunity to slide even farther next week.

Predictably, Raider fans were torn on how to feel after beating the Jaguars. The win was good to see, but if the team was hoping to draft Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, the cost to get one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft will probably involve the loss of an additional first-round pick or two.

Nevertheless, team owner Mark Davis was said to be thrilled with Sunday’s achievement at Allegiant Stadium.

According to The Athletic’s Tashan Reed, Davis was clapping and in a “good mood” in the locker room after the game.

Tashan Reed on X (formerly Twitter): “#Raiders owner Mark Davis was in the locker room clapping and talking to Daniel Carlson and AJ Cole when the locker room opened to the media. Some other players were dancing. Davis was in a good mood. Doesn’t seem to care about the draft order ramifications of the win over JAX. / X”

Davis doesn’t deserve criticism for congratulating the players, but in the big picture, it’s hard to imagine Sunday’s victory did anything to move the organization in a better direction.

Years from now, no one will remember Sunday’s win, but they will remember the quarterback (or quarterbacks) the Raiders add in the offseason. If the Raiders don’t have a top 5 pick, they will have to make an aggressive move for a quarterback in free agency, unless they are willing to go into the 2025 season with Aidan O’Connell at the top of the depth chart.

With that thought in mind, O’Connell’s chances of being the starting quarterback next year definitely got a boost with Sunday’s win.

Now the Raiders will travel to New Orleans in week 17 and they will face a Saints’ roster that might be even more depleted than their own.

That means this time next week the Raiders could be sitting on the ninth pick as they prepare for a Chargers team in week 18 that will be tempted to rest their starters ahead of the playoffs.

Sam Darnold to the Raiders?

Who says no?

  1. All Pierce cares about are winning meaningless games to save his rearend. This franchise is hopeless. They are devoid of talent. Pierce is the master at winning meaningless games. Just look at last year.

  2. RaaaDuhs always do what it takes to remain Bad.
Year after year we can count of them doing the wrong things . They should change the team motto to Just Lose Baby… but they can’t even do that right now. Switch the team to the spring league where they belong .

  3. So we lose the Shedeur Sanders sweepstakes and Mark Davis is as giddy as a school girl with a meaningless win. You can’t fix stupid, this team is no longer the raiders it is just Mark Davis’ team. Only he could have Fu*?ed this whole thing up, even a man of average intellgence would have this team running on cruise control by now. (Mark gets involved when he should not and he does not get involved when he should. ) He should have stood by Gruden who will yet win his ongoing lawsuit, but he was too weak to do that. He is too weak, incompetent and dumb to ever win. Mark Davis must sell, he is a loser and the Raiders will never win as long as he owns ons this team. Boycott this disaster until Mark Davis sells!

  4. If you’re unhappy with this win you don’t have a clue. And never will. Move to baseball. It’s easier to figure out.

  5. What a terrible time to beat a terrible team. This team has disappointed the Raider Nation ever since the permanent hire of AP over Harbaugh and Telesco over any decent GM. From the mishandling of Josh Jacobs & DA to not only over paying for Minshew but then getting a say into who the starting QB was going to be. Telesco has seen over one of the worst rosters in football. AP has only proven he doesn’t belong but this roster is terrible.

  6. AOC is actually not a bad QB. He would have looked exactly like Darnold on the Vikings. Not elite, though, like the rest of the division. But the Raiders are just 2 big guards away from having the kind of offense AP wants, ground and pound, time to throw deep, and BB for the rest. Do they realize this? (Not that I wouldn’t want the additional mobility of Ward or Sanders.)

  7. I say no! Darnold is what he will always be a turn over machine, plus we don’t have the offensive staff to keep him on his current path nor to develop him even more Darnold will revert to his NYJ QB play Raiders need to draft a QB & develop O’Connell but most certainly move on from Minshew he’s shell shocked

  8. I am SOOOOOOO Happy with a Win… Not Just for the Win… But Because we will not be Saddled with Either of the “Top Two” Crap QB’s in the Draft this Year… That would just set the Team Back five more Years!!! OL – DL – Free Agent QB!!! YaY!!!!!!

  9. As a long time Raiders fan, I love seeing the team win games and I don’t really believe in tanking, but there’s a time for everything. I think most fans would agree that the organization has been toxic for many years now, especially with the coaching staffs and overall Leadership.
That said, the win has probably cost the Raiders a shot at one of the top two QB’s in next year’s draft, which is inexcusable. The only way to get one now will be trading up, which will either cost them multiple high draft picks or a trade involving someone like Crosby.
It seems like Pierce in only concerned about keeping his job, rather than the long-term success of the team. It’s time for AP to go!
Hopefully, Brady will bring some good decision-making abilities back to a once great team.

  10. No to Sam if he comes to Raiders he will be like the Sam before the Vikings , we don’t have the talent the Vikings have or the coach

  11. I wanted Darnold when he was a free agent before. I’d be thrilled to get him now. Darnold plus a new pair of guards would make us better than Sanders (or whoever) and this same line.

  12. O’Connell looked good, now we should start Carter Bradley and see what he can do in the next two games, and save our really good players for next season.
