Recent Mock Draft Produced Raiders Dream Draft Scenario

There have been hundreds (well, thousands probably) of mock drafts over the last few months, but the best Raiders mock to date may have come from The Athletic beat writers this week.

With two primary needs entering the draft, this tag-team effort from Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur would be a dream scenario for the Raiders.

Pick 17: Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State

“After trading Trent Brown to the Patriots, the Raiders need a new right tackle. In comes Jenkins, who spent most of his time on the right side in college, but also has experience playing left tackle, left guard and right guard. He’s well built at 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds and has nice fundamentals in addition to strength, physicality and tenacity. Ideally, he steps in as a Day 1 starter.”

Trade: Tampa sent pick 32 to the Raiders for picks 48 and 79

Trevon Moehrig, S, Texas Christian

“If defensive coordinator Gus Bradley closed his eyes and pictured his ideal free safety, he’s about 6-foot-2, 202 pounds and has great range and ball skills … who can also drive downfield and wrap up ball carriers. Did we mention fluid hips? Yeah, he needs fluid hips. Tah dah. Moehrig is a Day 1 starter right next to 2018 first-round pick Johnathan Abram, who can focus on playing in the box.”

– Vic Tafur

The Raiders could use a little help at cornerback and defensive tackle, but if they can find rookie starters at safety and right tackle, this year’s draft would be a huge success for Jon Gruden and his merry men.

Jenkins and Moehrig are two of the best at their positions in the draft and could offer just the boost the Raiders need to sneak into the playoffs in 2021.

  1. RT is not a LT to a righted QB, therefore picking a RT is not true protection money well spent. This is a deep OL draft and we already have 3 RT on the roster with the first being D.Good. Don’t forget how well he played there early in the season before moving to LG. Also B.Parker has come a long way, but he is best at swing T.
The real draft target for RT should be Spencer Brown in the 2-4 rds. He is perfect for our power-zone system.
Now with that being said, draft Moehrig 1st and OLB/DE J.Ossai 2nd with S.Brown 3rd, now we’re rocking!

  2. I like Jenkins but I’m a little worried because after watching his tape, he didn’t really face a legit pass rusher. Also Jenkins age. He’ll turn 24 during next season. Imo, it would be better if Christian Darrisaw is available to draft him. Moehrig is a good FS. I also like Andre Cisco. I would double down at safety and draft SS Hufunga from USC to put pressure on Abrams who played terrible last year. Remember, this year is supposed to be ALL about defense. Gotta get the defense off the field so Derek Carr can get more possessions to throw for more touchdowns.

  3. I am biased being from Syracuse, but I really hope we get Cisco. A 24 year old guy is tough, these guys should be 21 or 22.
