It looks like Maxx Crosby is going to be traded much sooner than later and it’s possible the Raiders will agree, in principle, to a new deal before the weekend.
There has been a lot of information swirling the internet around Crosby in the last few weeks, but it feels like we’re entering the final chapter.
Here are three nuggets to keep in mind as the Crosby situation gets closer to the finish line.
Maxx Crosby wants to leave the Raiders, but he doesn’t want to say it…
“As the Raiders continue to work their way through an unworkable relationship with defensive end Maxx Crosby, it remains to be seen whether they’ll give him the trade he wants,” NBC’s Mike Florio wrote at Pro Football Talk on Wednesday.
“There’s no doubt he wants one,” Florio continued. “Crosby is taking the high road, but the evidence continues to hide in plain sight. In the four weeks since Jay Glazer of Fox said that Crosby is “done” with the Raiders, there has been no retraction or contradiction. The fact that the Raiders have attached an asking price (as PFT reported last week, two first-round picks and a player) shows that they’re willing to move him.”
It has been reported that Crosby isn’t going to request a trade, but every indication is that the Raiders understand where the situation is headed.
Crosby doesn’t have to be the “bad guy” and his agent, who gets paid a lot of money to handle situations like these, is working hard behind the scenes.
A great tweet here from Marcus Johnson…
Teams are trying to push forward the timeline on a Crosby trade…
It was initially believed that Crosby wouldn’t be traded until he was fully recovered from knee surgery, but it has become clear that teams will be happy to take him in his current condition.
A couple of teams are trying to pressure the Raiders into backing off their demands by convincing GM John Spytek he is going to miss on getting his best deal by letting negotiations drag deeper into the offseason.
That’s a clever trade tactic, but the Raiders should hold on to Crosby until they get what they want for him. So far, that’s what they have done.
The Raiders will get close to their asking price from Crosby…
Two first-round picks and a player is a lot, but the valuation is one that the Raiders should be able to get.
Whether it’s in the form of multiple players and one draft pick, or a similar variation, there are enough teams interested in Crosby that the Raiders should be able to get a return close to what they want for him.
With a trade expected soon, look for the Raiders to see their best offers for Crosby much sooner than later.
According to Trey Wingo, the Cowboys are preparing to shift their focus on Trey Hendrickson, but don’t rule out Jerry Jones on anything until a deal is done.
