Insider Blasts Luke Getsy for Raiders Offensive Struggles

Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has taken a lot of criticism from the fan base over the first seven weeks of the season, and the trend is starting to pick up among media types.

Getsy isn’t everything that is wrong with the Raiders offense, but NFL insider Tony Pauline seemed to pin most of the blame on the first-year coordinator for the team’s offensive struggles.

“League sources have blasted offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and tell me he is responsible for the poor play of the unit he oversees,” Pauline reported on Saturday.

“The inconsistency of quarterbacks Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew has reminded many of Getsy’s past,” Pauline continued. “The prior two seasons, Getsy held the same position with the Chicago Bears and was bashed for his inability to develop Justin Fields, the 2021 first-round pick the team traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason for a sixth-round pick.”

Pauline’s comments line up with last week’s tone from Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, who suggested too many things are going wrong with the Raider offense for Getsy not to be responsible.

“Years ago, Bobby Bowden, the legendary West Virginia [coach], and of course, most people know him from Florida State, and I [were] having lunch, and we had a long discussion about a lot of topics,” Hondo said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. “But one of the topics we talked about was, I asked him, ‘How can I be a better analyst as a media member covering sports?’”

“He told me something I’ll never forget,” Hondo continued. “He said, if one or two players is playing poorly, then you can point a finger to the player. But when all of them are, or multiples are, and it continues over just more than a one game. He said [then] you have to look at coaching. I’m taking his words, and I think right now, everybody on that offensive staff has to be getting a long, hard look at, and that starts with [Luke] Getsy, doesn’t it?”

Looking ahead, every indication is that the Raiders are going to start looking ahead to next year from an organizational standpoint, and that means more players could be traded ahead of the November 5 trade deadline.

One of those players, however, will not be Maxx Crosby.

“We’re Not Trading Maxx Crosby,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said in an email to ESPN on Saturday. “Before Or After The Trade Deadline!!!”

ESPN quoted Davis in his trademark first-letter capitalized font that he his known for, and it was also interesting that the statement included “after” the trade deadline.

Davis clearly wants everyone to understand Crosby won’t be traded in the offseason, either.

Pauline mentioned that the Raiders have received interest in Crosby, but it doesn’t sound like the offers have amounted to much more than a first-round pick.

“While the team is not dangling Maxx Crosbyon the trade market, they have been receiving calls from teams who would like to acquire the pass rusher and are willing to part with a first-round pick to secure the deal,” Pauline said.

If the best the Raiders have been offered for Crosby is a first-round pick, it’s no wonder the owner decided to squash the trade rumors.

The starting point for trade conversations around Crosby should be two first-round picks and even then there’s a good chance he’s worth more than a pair of late first-round picks from a team like the Detroit Lions.

For what it’s worth, Crosby addressed trade rumors on his podcast this week. He said he understands it’s a business, but doesn’t want to go anywhere…

Natalie Sparbeck on X (formerly Twitter): “MAXX CROSBY addresses TRADE RUMORS on his podcast, @TheRushWithMaxx: “I’m not trynna leave…I wanna be here, I wanna be silver & black. I’ll say it loud and f*in clear, I wanna be a Raider.” 👀 pic.twitter.com/HKL6OJkZjT / X”

  1. Not like it wasn’t widely known. Bears fans were ecstatic when he was let go.
A bad fire. AP, play calling needs to get passed to the next in line.

  2. Getsy was a terrible hire from the get go. They need an early pick QB. No on any bridge qb’s. Telasco needs to bite the bullet and get us a franchise about. I think he was a bad hire also.

  3. Trading Crosby would be the biggest Bone Head mistake amongst many other mistakes made over the last 20 years. But, getting rid of Getsy would be a good thing. We could have been right there in that game against the Chiefs. Down on the goal line, 18 inches from equalling the score, and Getsy runs three running plays with absolutely no imagination. Everybody knew right where the ball was going. What is wrong with trying it once and then faking it up the middle and bootlegging it for the corner of the end zone? I was right months and months ago when I said, “Give Josh Jacobs what he wants, he’s worth it!” We sure could use a Back like that now…..and a new Offensive Coordinator.

  4. Just don’t understand . No home field advantage… so many chief’s fans…do the chiefs play home games in Vegas to… need a better offensive plan a fullback that can block, run and catch the ball in a two back set… offensive line needs more time on the sleds..most of all better plays. Once they put riddle in they should have left him in… shows how inconsistent and irrational the coaches are… it was a very poorly coached Raiders team… should have never left Oakland… or California … CALIFORNIA is RAIDER NATION… Vegas is not a football town… O line needs help badly… start riddle and stay with him… what could it hurt… might get surprised… but to pull him out because a lineman jumped was wrong… get rich back at head coach…

  5. NEWS FLASH… Raider offensive line plays poorly blamed the golden arches… Quarter pounder with extra onions and cheese… gave them extra bloating and the Farts…

  6. So far many coaches and quarterbacks have come and gone… seems the offensive line can’t protect the quarterback or the coach… a two back set gives the defense more to think about and the quarterback another target or blocker against the pass rush blitz… most of the problems starts at pass protection blocking and just running out of gas. So it don’t matter who’s the Quarterback is… and these coaches need to address the offensive line and line coach… OAKLAND RAIDERS… the name even sounds better…CALIFORNIA IS RAIDER NATION… should have never left CALIFORNIA… start ridder see how he does then work with the QB that gives you a better chance during the buy week…the problems start with the offensive line through… get a big fullback mix it up…

  7. START RIDDER YOU HAVE TO TRY AND JUMPSTART THE OFFENSE… IF IT’S GOOD AND WINS THEN WORK WITH HIM ON THE BYE WEEK AND GET HIM READY FOR A WILDCARD RUN… MIX IN A TWO BACK SET AND GIVE HIM SOME OPTIONS AND PROTECTION… IT WOULD BE PROMISING TO GO IN THE BYE WEEK WITH A WIN… YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED WHAT HAPPENS… TRY SOMETHING……. IT’S OK TO EAT AT THE GOLDEN ARCHES…. MC THANKS…
