Report Says Raiders Management Surprised by Davante Adams Trade Request, Players Not So Much

Trade rumors around Davante Adams have been swirling since last year, and according to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, the Raiders locker room was not particularly surprised by his trade request last week.

“I don’t think the locker room was as shocked as maybe management and above. Players got a different view. I don’t think the players were shocked, but I do believe [Antonio Pierce] and management [were shocked],” Hondo said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“I’m looking forward to our deep dive article because I would just say to Raider Nation, be careful about assuming narratives,” Hondo continued. “Be careful until you have information. Objects in mirror are not always as they appear. You and I have talked about, and we’ve known for a while this was coming.”

Ultimately, some might have been surprised by Adams’ trade request, but the list of team employees who were shocked by the events of the last week is probably smaller than advertised.

There is a reason why Davante Adams wasn’t named a team captain, and the team knew that a big decision was coming on his contract. Maybe the Raiders as an organization were surprised at the timing of Adams’ trade request, but there have been plenty of signs that this was coming.

For Adams part, he has always told fans not to believe trade rumors until they come from him.

But according to a report from FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer, Adams presented his trade request to the Raiders on Monday of last week and he didn’t acknowledge any elements of that request in his weekly appearance on the Up and Adams Show last week.

“I haven’t heard from [Antonio Pierce]. I haven’t talked to him,” Adams told Up and Adams host Kay Adams on Tuesday of last week. “I don’t really know what that was about. Obviously social media is a beast, so it’s a lot of people out there that saw it and wondering what’s going on, and people reaching out.”

If Adams requested a trade the day before his appearance on the Up and Adams Show, he knew exactly what Pierce’s liked social media post was about.

Safe to say, there is a certain amount of jockeying for public perception going on between Adams and the Raiders, and that’s a notable dynamic considering he hasn’t been traded from the team yet.

Carpenter mentioned a deep dive article coming on the Adams saga and that will be something Raider fans should want to check out.

  1. Should have made a play for Harbaugh for coach.Second time we missed out on him! Davis is excellent at business but not so good at football moves.I’ll remain a member of Raider Nation even though games are no longer aired in my area.

  2. Blah blah, drama, blah blah, drama. It’s always one whining diva doesn’t get his way. New year, same old same old, just a new diva and a new team.

  3. Adams cares about his legacy, about stats, about putting up the numbers to get into the H O F, way more than his team winning Superbowls, being part of a winning team. He would take putting up big numbers yr in and yr out, over being a complete team player, part of a winning team and sharing the big numbers. Guaranteed!!!!
You can see and read it in him, he’s bothered by and isn’t really happy if he only had 4 or 5 reception in a game they won, where everyone got a taste and the ball was spread around. He’d rather have 15 catches for a buck 60 and lose, than 4 catches for 38 yrs and win. He’d never admit that, of course not. But if he had 44 receptions for 475 yards and 5 TDs right now I friggin guarantee you wouldn’t be hearing any trade BS….. Adams lied like MF when he said in that interview he didn’t have a clue what was up or why A. P. did what he did, Adams had already put in for a trade before that interview, he just didn’t want to look like he looks now…. I lost respect, good riddance, his big numbers are behind him anyway, unless you just want to feed him to keep him happy and put winning in the back seat. If defences kno ur going to force feed his *** they’ll for sure make sure he’s blanketed top and bottom. Then I know what comes next from the talking heads…. “Then the other guys will be open and make the plays” Yea? then your right back to a disgruntled Adams. 10+ catches or he’s pist…..cuz a bunch of catches and losing is much better than 3 receptions and winning…. At least for some….
Good Riddance fake stat man, I’ll take a win Everytime, EVERYTIME over anything else, “JUST WIN BABY”
    Love ya Al…. RIP Maverick
