Raiders Rolled Out Laughable Offensive Formation on Play that Sealed Sunday’s Loss

The Raiders keep finding ways to lose games, and on Sunday, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy went deep into his bag tricks to find an inexplicable formation to essentially close out the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

With just over 8 minutes remaining in the game and the Raiders trailing 20-13, the offense faced a 2nd and 3 that resulted in a Gardner Minshew fumble that was recovered by the Chiefs.

The fumble was bad, but the formation was even worse.

It looked like a typical formation in live action, but with a closer look you can see the Raiders had offensive tackle Thayer Munford split wide as a wide receiver.

In what situation would the Raiders gain any kind of schematic advantage by lining up a 6’6, 315-pound offensive tackle as an outside receiver?

Even nuttier, Munford lined up as a wide receiver the play before, too, so it was intentional and Getsy was obviously trying to do something.

At some point, the Raiders are going to have to get serious and make a major adjustment on offense.

Getsy might not be everything that’s wrong with the offense, but NFL insider Tony Pauline wrote a column prior to Sunday’s game that pinned most of the blame on the first-year coordinator.

“League sources have blasted offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and tell me he is responsible for the poor play of the unit he oversees,” Pauline reported on Saturday.

“The inconsistency of quarterbacks Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew has reminded many of Getsy’s past,” Pauline continued. “The prior two seasons, Getsy held the same position with the Chicago Bears and was bashed for his inability to develop Justin Fields, the 2021 first-round pick the team traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason for a sixth-round pick.”

Safe to say, Sunday’s game didn’t do anything to silence the growing number of Getsy doubters.

  1. Mark, do you see what this clown AP is letting happen? You mean TT isn’t saying AP he needs to go? F THIS SHI+ I’m done following such incompetence.

  2. We need a quarterback bad. Yet, another turnover by Minshew. Fire the offensive coordinator now.

  3. Who is the person that let us lose Josh Jacobs, and sign Minshew??? We have no running game, while Jacobs is doing well in Green Bay. Luke Getsy needs to go he was terrible in Chicago. He made his name known when he had Aaron Rodgers as QB in Green Bay. Get him out of here now. Coach Pierce is a defensive minded coach you need a strong offensive coach to balance him and Luke is not it.

  4. Mark Davis is an incompetent owner. No hooe for this team until he removes himself from football decisions. He hired a GM, but then dictates who the HC will be!!?? That’s a huge problem, right now. The rook HC appears out of his element.

  5. Pierce probably should fire Getsy now. The season is pretty much DOA. If he wants to return next season he needs to make a statement now.

True it may already be to late. If you are going to go down though. You might as well go down fighting.

  6. Replace Raiders head coach and staff!!!
Get rid of rookie quarterback, and please quit hiring journeymen quarterbacks.
To date, you’ve had just 2 winners, Stabler
    and Plunkett.

  7. I missed the formation, but can’t miss Getsy’s horrible coordination.
The QB coach from last year was way better and was developing AOC.
    Defensive play is acceptable.

  8. Couldn’t believe they hired him in the first place. Come on. Set us back 2 years. Just when we are starting to get some good players, now they won’t come here unless they have to. Good defensive players will want out to. Can you blame them. Luke is terrible. Will never be a winner

  9. They need to get rid of the offensive coordinator period and get a more experience one. This absolutely makes Raiders organization look very bad.

  10. We all know it was a screen to Munford side so he can block and to pick up the first down. Lol

  11. No raiders fan felt confident when getsy was hired. He is a proven lover, much like Josh McDaniels was a hc. In 2 yrs our shining moment was our defense absolutely destroying mahomes and the chiefs on Christmas day. Gets gutsy out, chalk up this yr to a tank yr and get a qb to help this team win. Raiders are wasting a all pro defensive end in maxx and we wonder why we always lose the good guys. No one wants to be a raider because we haven’t shown the raider pride in some time

  12. The Raiders offensive play calling is sub junior high school football. Run, Run, Pass, Punt. So predictable. The Head Coach has ZERO offensive mentality and wants to run run run and win by 3. NO good NFL Head Coach doesn’t strive to win by 30.
    Un-watchable.

  13. I think Luke Getsy is a nice guy, I just don’t think he is the right fit to be offensive coordinator for the Raiders. Sunday’s Game against the Chiefs, was the absolute worst playcalling made by Luke Getsy. He absolutely should have that Gardner Minshew throw the ball on first and second downs a lot more than he did. The first drive was amazing, and awesome. There’s an old saying…, But it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Luke Getsy , has too much ego and not enough knowledge of the Raiders. He is wasting a lot of talent. Although , That was multiple mistakes made during this game, And a lot of contributions to this loss against the Chiefs…, Mr. Getsy he made some serious mistakes as an offensive coordinator in this specific game. They teed off and smacked Minshew around a lot, because They knew exactly what Getsy was gonna call. It was the silliest thing for him to keep the pattern of “run run pass”. !!! I am sorry, but when you do something like that, and the defense is expecting two runs in a row, they are more than ready for it, and they abruptly put stops to the runs. This puts all the pressure on the quarterback, and the defenders know what is coming, so he cannot get the proper protection from his offensive line as well. I do know that Minu needs more protection. I also believe that he is a tough competitor, and he actually has a lot of talent. Getsy is Completely screwing up the Raiders’ Offense !!! The truth is…, The interim offensive coordinator last year, did a 10 times better job than the veteran. Luke Getsy is doing this year. That my friend, is the cold hard truth !!

  14. Probably time to send Luke Getsy on an early Halloween run. The sooner the better. And if Telesco objects to this fire him also. Put Minshew on the practice squad and if someone wants him help him out the door. Put Ridder in and have Bradley as his backup. Roll with that. And as far as O’Connell just another Menshew with shorter hair- useless also. I just can’t watch this anymore. Not AP’s fault , this is Telesco and Getsy period. Wake up Dutch boy, do something constructive. Hendon Hooker, Trey Lance , Spenser Rattler are all available for not much money. Thank the Heavens we don’t have Dak, Watson, or Diva Rodgers. Nov 5th is coming right up do something

  15. Players are doing what they are told by coordinators either offense or defense, it is their responsibility to execute the plays, if execution is correct then the play calling is at fault, play to the strength of the players they have.

  16. Your the so called professionals and yet can’t get a danm thing right. Your not trying very hard in my book. AP was the savior, what happen?!?

  17. Complete disaster! Tank the season. I’m done watching this debacle. I cant believe i fell into the hype again. Spending my hard earned money to go see them in New Orleans and paying an arm & leg for worthless tkts in Vegas. Hey Mark, with all due respect, you lost this team and Vegas is home to visiting teams not Raiders.

  18. No, whats laughable is not gaining 3 yards on three tries, scoring 3 points inside the red zone in three different attemps not making adjustments after half-time ” I’m on a roll now …….somebody stop me, I need to be on comedy central, open up for Dave Chappell “. Killing our defense by setting a new record of 3 and outs, ” who held the previous record ? WE DID , and will set another one this weekend end.

This makes about as much sense as telling Hispanics “They’re paying for a wall to keep them…….wait I can’t say that……….phuck if I can’t out ” I’m sorry, I have to cut this short, can’t see from the tears of laughter in my eyes……………….
