If we’ve learned anything in the last 48 hours of following the Raiders, it’s become clear that the relationship between Davante Adams and head coach Antonio Pierce isn’t a good one.
Adams was one of the players who lobbied the organization to stick with Pierce after last season, but every sign over the last two days is indicating that their relationship has soured.
Pierce took questions from members of the media on Wednesday about his ‘liked’ social media post on Adams being traded, and he wasn’t offering any details. Additionally, he made no effort to clear the air.
Asked about the nature of the ‘liked’ video, Pierce said he was “just focused on Denver” and said he would leave his interactions with Adams “between [him] and Davante.”
Pierce last met with the media on Monday and ESPN host Pat McAfee said he believes Pierce was taking a shot at Adams by not referring to him by name at Monday’s press conference. Pierce referenced Adams as “17” in that press conference and Adams may have responded to that on Tuesday by referring to himself as “17” in his segment on the Up and Adams Show.
At this point it’s a foregone conclusion that Adams is going to be traded, and the list of teams interested in Adams seems to be significant.
The Adams camp leaked on Wednesday that he would prefer to be traded to the Jets or Saints, and some believe the Raiders would consider taking a lesser offer for Adams from an NFC team.
As of now, it sounds like a second-round pick is what the Raiders want to be included in a trade for Adams, and that seems like a reasonable cost considering he’s still considered by most to be a top-10 wide receiver in the league.
Based on the mood Pierce was putting out at Wednesday’s press conference, he didn’t look like a head coach that wants to take answers on Adams a lot longer.
Look for a trade involving Adams to happen much sooner than later if the Raiders can pull it off.

2 critical drops in the previous game that hit him in the hands that would’ve moved the chains. Can’t have it. Can’t have your number one guy mentally absent like that. Sends a strong message. I don’t like the public like thing. But sends a league wide message.
Amen. I’ll go a step further and say look at his tenure with the silver and black, and look at how many 50/50 balls he came down with. Can’t be paying that much money to not come down with those balls.
If teams want him bad enough, they’ll give up a first round pick ,don’t give him away for nothing!
Ridiculous. It’s mid season. The Raiders have zero leverage as they can keep him and get no production or trade him for the best they are offered. Any team taking him has to get him under their salary cap.
They’ll be lucky to get a third or fourth and another pick with that. Nobody is giving up a first and nobody is going to want to pay him $36 mil a year for the next two years. He’s a playoff run rental.
He wanted to play with Derek Carr, he only got a game or two. Plus Mc Sh!+ didn’t let the guy stick around. If Saints don’t have $$ or good terms let’s see what the Jets offer, I like them trading a defensive guy, but hey let’s see.
In respect to AP let’s give the guy until the end of the season to figure it out, if it’s a train wreck then I’d say he move on from OC and bring in some real talent, including a proven QB and draft a good prospect.
Not addressing the trade rumors is understandable, but ducking responsibility for his own role in this debacle with his social media behavior by refusing to address those questions was really lame, and the opposite of leadership.
But he says he’s a leader of men.
That sucks and I love Adams (17) but the only upside is the capital we would gain. Everyone starts at the bottom before Everyone knows your name. Hopefully we get the next Adams of the future. I just want Davante to be happy. If I’d pick where he goes it’s Jets or Saints. Yeah you get it.
sometime soon these players need to stop worrying about their stats, and play for the team. someone else will take their place and be happy they made it to the NFL.
You are the only one that says the right thing and the truth.
I think his play has started to slip, somewhat, with the drops and not putting much effort into blocking. It would be best for, both, Davante and the Raiders to part ways. As a Raider fan, I just hope we receive reasonable compensation in return. It seems like maybe Davante is rebelling against the culture that AP is attempting to instill??!!
Dont trade him to the AFC. Dont want it to bite you later down the road.
2nd and an off lineman or defensive player.
I just don’t get why they can’t talk it out and squash the bs like men. Little social media jabs is for kids. The season is not lost at 2-2. It’s not like the situation in NY is any better with QB/ coach issues, allegedly. And I don’t see N.O paying all that money in 2yrs for him. Send him to Carolina if he don’t want to play for us!
Adam’s is used to a solid organization, not team chaos. He came to the Raiders a season after they made the lkayoffs and to play with Carr. McDaniels totally ruined the team his first year as coach and benched Carr as a scapegoat, then cut him without a viable replacement. The Raiders have had crap QBs since. I don’t blame Adam’s. NFL careers are too short to play for organizations that never seem to figure it out. This comes from a die hard Raider fan of 50 years, but one who is very frustrated.
I agree Mark, DA is justified, and the whole Maxx, I’ll walk if AP isn’t hired was a debacle too. DA was used to AR in his prime, the Raiders are just an unacceptable way for him to end his career. This year will come apart at the seams.
My number 1 wish is to create a Carr/Adams reunion . But not how everyone else thinks . I think instead of Trading away Adams , I think we should trade for Carr. Below is a list of problems we currently have that would benefit us big time . We either have QB issues or the team is just holding back waiting for the second half of the season to explode, if we don’t implode before then . The Raiders had the same amount of time as everybody else to secure a QB , free agency or draft. . Since that only produced Minshew, and he has produced so/so , I just get the feeling that the team is going to implode and AP is good designate who is going to fall on the sword. My suggestion might not workout the way I would like to see it work out but it would show an effort at least , which I don’t see now!
***Trade a draft pick to the Saints for Carr
*This automatically upgrades your QB room .
It may take a few weeks but in the long run it will improve your passing game .
*Carr might not be up there with Montana , Brady or Marino but one thing you can give him credit for is he always knew where #17 was . *The passing game gets better as would
Your running game . And your offense
** It will prevent the team from splitting down the middle between a producing good enough to win defense against an anemic Offense .
** It will also heal up a recent wound caused by Thd disrespectful departure Carr endured. It will be a feel good story that the team could use right about now.
** It will make us a better team which will produce more points and more wins !
Therefore making us into a legit chances team to snag a playoff birth .
Mark,well said Bro!
