The Raiders appear to be on the verge of trading Maxx Crosby and there is an expectation among many that a deal is most likely going to happen by Monday and could happen at any time.
A trade involving Crosby couldn’t be finalized until the start of the new league year (March 11) and it’s possible that his physical could slow down the process considering he had knee surgery in January.
Former ESPN analyst Trey Wingo has been well-connected on some of the teams involved in the Crosby sweepstakes and on Thursday he hinted that the Cowboys were most likely going to leave the bidding war and focus on Trey Hendrickson, who is slated to become a free agent next week.
Wingo said that as of Thursday teams have begun bumping up there offers for Crosby and he brought up a new team to watch that might be particularly relevant to the Cowboys and their fan base.
“I think that the Cowboys thought they were in a much better position last night,” Wingo said on Dallas radio’s 105.3 The Fan.
“The Raiders can ask for whatever they want [for Crosby], but if somebody’s not going to get them what they want, they may have to reconsider what they’re asking. So I wouldn’t say they are completely out of it, but I certainly think that the Cowboys position, or they felt their position was much stronger last night than it is this afternoon.”
“There was a report that Chicago was thinking about [offering two first-round picks]. I’ve heard that the Philadelphia Eagles might be dipping into the waters here and Howie Roseman knows how to do this better than anybody. IF there was a team that would do it, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was Philadelphia because Howie [Roseman] keeps figuring out ways to find picks and money where nobody else seems to be able to get it done.”
The Eagles were the team mentioned here yesterday as a sleeper to swoop in on Crosby, but even if the All-Pro pass rusher doesn’t end up in Philadelphia, Wingo believes Crosby is going to play somewhere other than Las Vegas in 2026.
“I do feel one way or the other,” Wingo said, “Maxx Crosby will be playing for somebody else next year.”
What Wingo didn’t say that has become increasingly more likely in the last 24 hours is that the Raiders are going to get close to their asking price for Crosby.
If the Raiders want two first round picks for Crosby, they will be able to get that.
