Charles Woodson has entered a space of football royalty within the Raiders organization, and he is still one of the most beloved former players among the fan base.
Woodson rarely holds back his opinion, so it was interesting to hear his thoughts on the Davante Adams trade situation that has been playing out for the last week.
Woodson talked about a trending shift in the way players are handling their contracts and using the leverage they have in those contracts to get what they want from their employers.
“It seems like today, I think that players are taking matters into their own hands more and more,” Adams said on the FOX pregame on Sunday. “They’re almost acting like little mini organizations. When you think about organizations… if you’re a great player, you get paid a contract for your services, as soon as you decline that organization will say, ‘You know what? We’re going to find a way to move on from you, try to replace you, maybe restructure your contract.'”
“What players are saying nowadays is that ‘If the organization is not doing right by me, they’re not bringing me the quarterback that can give me the touches I need’, in this case Davante Adams is not happy with what’s going on with the Raiders, or the draft is not the way you think it should be. ‘Hey, I’m 32 years old, I’ve got a few good years left, I want to win.’ If they don’t feel like they’re winning now where they’re at then they’re saying ‘You know what, I’m going to fire you, organization. I’m going to look for another organization.'”
Woodson was asked whether he likes the league’s shift to players pushing themselves away from teams where they aren’t happy, and he believes it’s a good thing.
“I love it,” Woodson said. “I love that players are feeling bold enough to say ‘You know what? It’s not right here, so move me.'”
Woodson ended his monologue by saying he believes the best fit for Adams would be the Washington Commanders.
It’s widely believed that the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are the favorites to trade for Adams, but Woodson isn’t the first to suggest the All-Pro wide receiver should consider the Commanders.
In January of this year, Adams named Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels as the quarterback in the draft that he liked, but to this point there haven’t been any firm reports linking Adams to the Commanders.

Al Davis would’ve sent his *** to Carolina and never asked where he wanted to go. I miss that legend.
If the Raiders have to trade Adams Rade him for a first round pick! I’d not then trade him to the Saints for a second round pick and Rattler! Or to Dallas for a second round pick and Lance! Or to the Panthers for a second round pick and Young! If to the jets a first round pick Only! If to Pittsburgh a second round pick and Fields. BUT GETSY HAS TO GO!!!!
What a load of horse crap. Football is meant to be a team sport and the team as a whole are to accomplish a goal. This group of younger players over the last 8 to 10 years are doing the same to football as they are to generally everything meaningful that exists. There are no true sportsmen anymore, just as there are no true values and pride being the driving force. in what people do. You do not do your job only for pay and or self importance. You do it out of pride of accomplishment and working with others for a common goal. If you do not like what I say and think I will care about your ridiculous attitudes because you think this type of think is ok. Then feel free to respond and be ignored. You are not worth my efforts.
