Raiders’ Star DT Wilkins Back in Walking Boot

It was reported last week that Raiders’ defensive tackle Christian Wilkins will likely need another surgery on his injured left foot.

“Christian Wilkins needs another surgery and could be out the entire season,” Renz said Friday on Chat Sports’ Raiders Report.

“I had a source reach out to me yesterday… and unfortunately dropped this horrific news on my plate,” Renz continued. “Here’s what I know as it stands right now. Wilkins does, in fact, need another surgery… there has been speculation, there has been rumors, there has been multiple stories around Wilkins needing another surgery.”

Following Renz’s report, very little was mentioned about Wilkins’ foot by beat writers covering the team, but The Athletic’s Tashan Reed posted a message on X on Tuesday that shows the Raiders’ $110 million defensive tackle back in a walking boot.

Tashan Reed on X (formerly Twitter): “#Raiders DT Christian Wilkins is back in a walking boot (he was in attendance at Kyle Van Voy’s charity golf challenge yesterday). It’s the same foot where he suffered a Jones Fracture last October. pic.twitter.com/Uyro8XWUrD / X”

Wilkins had previously been in a walking boot, but it seems like there has been another setback or the injury simply hasn’t been healing as expected.

Renz added that he has heard Wilkins does not want to have another surgery, but the Raiders’ medical team is advising him to have surgery and avoid the potential for further damage to his foot.

Wilkins played in just five games last year due to his broken foot, and it sounds like he’s at risk of missing all 17 games this year. There will be more information coming, but the outlook isn’t particularly encouraging with training camp right around the corner.

The majority of local reports have suggested that Wilkins is expected to be back by September, but it’s starting to feel like the information coming out of the building has been a little more optimistic than what seems to be playing out.

Last week, renowned orthopedic sports surgeon Deepak Chona offered his medical opinion on reports around Wilkins’ foot, and he made a notable statement that might end up applying to Wilkins’s situation.

“From what we’re hearing, it sounds like they expect him to be ready for training camp,” Chona said on the Just Win podcast. “But obviously, you know, the reports at this time of year are often optimistic, so it’s a little bit hard to judge that at face value…”

  1. And what would be the point of throwing away 50 million in dead money right now, with the added irony that in a year he might recover and return to top form? Sometimes people should engage their brains before writing.

  2. Still paying for Telesco. If it wasn’t for his drafting of Brock Bowers we will recover from the damage we suffered from the off-season and 2024 season I’ve seen the RAIDERS have. We paid to much for Wilkins. We had a lot of money available in or salary cap but that’s what fools do. They have no idea what the the value of a dollar 💵 is. At least we have a new regime who has a level head accompanied with experience and a strong desire to win and bring the RAIDERS back to being the legendary team that love. A passion to win a commitment to excellence. RAIDER NATION

  3. Hey Massimo if you are the one who had to issue a check year after year for dead money and dead player maybe you would get a brain . Mr Mensa wtf?????
