Davante Adams has been reunited with his old buddy Aaron Rodgers, and after one game in New York, their reunion is not off to a great start.
Raider fans haven’t been sympathetic to Adams after quitting on the team three weeks ago, and Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter pulled back the curtain a little more last week on the All-Pro wide receiver’s complicated tenure in Las Vegas.
“I think that there were reasons to believe that Davante, while incredibly talented and a good human being, I’m not trashing the man, probably in my opinion was not the best teammate for the Raider organization,” Hondo said on the After Hours with Amy Lawrence podcast.
Asked by Lawrence if the loss of Derek Carr had something to do with Adams’ decision to want out of Las Vegas, Hondo said it absolutely did not.
“Absolutely nothing [to do with Carr leaving the Raiders],” Hondo said.
“When I write my article that will come out the bye week, I’m going to go back to something that happened that first tipped me off [in his first season with the Raiders]. That was when I was first tipped off that there was a problem,” Hondo continued. “I got tipped off by a member of the organization about something, and I’m like, ‘Wow’ and I was stunned.”
In recent weeks, Adams has been disingenuous with fans in national media appearances, and an ESPN report on Friday detailed the first signs of trouble between Adams and head coach Antonio Pierce in the offseason.
“The first sign of trouble this year was when Adams skipped voluntary OTAs,” ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez and Rich Cimini reported.
“Despite the Raiders installing a new offense under incoming offensive coordinator Luke Getsy (Adams had endorsed the hiring because they had worked together in Green Bay) and bringing in new quarterback Gardner Minshew. Adams posted a video on social media of him washing his car while his teammates were practicing.”
Additionally, it sounds like Adams wasn’t happy the Raiders didn’t sign or draft the quarterback(s) he wanted in the offseason.
“Pierce wanted Adams to be more of a vocal leader this season,” Gutierrez and Cimini continued. “Adams… believed he had a voice in personnel matters and was all-in on the Raiders trading up to draft a top-tier QB like Jayden Daniels or acquiring a more accomplished veteran like Justin Fields. But when the Raiders settled on Minshew and a returning O’Connell, frustration grew for Adams, team sources said.”

As far as I’m concerned Adams is a P.O.S. and I would tell it to his face the punk. Go play with your butt buddy ahole
I would be pissed too if I was Adams. He came to the Raiders because of Carr and put up 14 TDs and 1500 yards. Then, two years later his QB is Gardner Minshew?! I would not be motivated for voluntary OTAs either. Now he’s going into the twilight of his career with an old and washed up Aaron Rodgers and questionable Jets team. Yeah, I would be mad as hell 🙄
Been a Raiders fan for 50 years cannot remember a player in team history that forced their way out like this. They say once a Raider always a Raider not for DA he will never win a championship in NY good ritence enjoy your commute with your Bro.
Leaving Vegas for New York in the winter is insane gang. Can’t believe it 😂😂😂😂😂
I have been a Raiders fan for many years. Recently the organization has showed a lack of integrity. Josh Jacobs lead the league in rushing a few years ago and he was not rewarded the following year. He obviously felt he was lied to. Not only did every Raider witness it,but every other player and coach in the league did also. Maybe that’s why Cliff Kingsbury passed on us. The league says running backs are not important, but every team stresses the need for a running game. Derek Henry is still killing opponents.. Detroit has two backs crushing it, and Josh is doing just fine in Green Bay. Davante learned real quick that this organization has problems from the top down. I wish him luck.
Randy Moss did the same as Adams
dudes a cancer. as a charger fan, i didnt want this trashcan anywhere near our team.
“We have got to be the dumbest team in America,” says Bill Callahan. Why wouldn’t you keep one of two stars on your franchise that hasn’t been relevant in nearly 40 years outside of three seasons at the start of the 21st century and wager the draft to grab Daniels? A lax approach and look at us again and perennial loser yet again and will be for years to come. Letting Josh walk… man, I am on my last leg with this team after nearly being a die-hard of 40+ years; it’s the same **** but on a different day.
I was a die hard Raiders fan for 45 years. Watched every single game I could, followed the team religiously. This year is the one I finally walked away. I don’t see how any true Raiders fan can fault Adams for wanting out of the team. They had a horrible offense last year, and did absolutely nothing to resolve it this year. They bring in a failed OC, a failed GM and Minshew. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out that an elite WR won’t be happy with those decisions. What a bunch of clowns.
This man don’t lie – FACTS!!!
The title should read that he was “tipped off” of a problem when the Raiders chose to hire AP. MORONIC!
From Antonio Brown to Adams Telesco and Pierce are both a nightmare and HOPEFULLY BRADY WILL RIGHT THIS Dumpster fire and clean house!
Right on, you’ve hit the problem straight on, but will Davis/Brady have the cohones to do it – including trading Maxx Crosby to the Lions for a 1st rounder?
I have been a raiders fan since 1974. I have seen all the times when they got close and were called the team that couldn’t Win the big one, Then they did in Super Bowl 11 it was awesome. There was no doubt that they were the best team in the league. but we are nowhere near that now and then bringing in Tom Brady who screwed us out of another Super Bowl championship Is a slap in the face. I am all done with the Raiders wherever they choose to call home. Good luck to Davante Adams in the rest of his career ,he was not the problem.
My father took me to a Raider game
When I was 5 maybe 6 the next year
There was seat’s not bleachers or an end zone flooded or drunk people running into the cyclone fence,
Anyways I’ve seen it all with the Raiders
On the field and off the field after AFTER
JOHN MADDEN,…. WELL … YA SEE…
THEY JUST TURNED TO POOP !
THEY MADE IT WITH OLE JOHN MADDEN
YEP, THEY WERE OK AFTER MADDEN
HE MADE THEM STAND OUT LIKE WORLD Champs YEP… EVERYBODY I KNOW IN S.F. EAST BAY USED TO LOVE THE RAIDERS
NOW THEY WONT EVEN ADMIT THEY WERE RAIDER FANS…
I AM A RAIDER DIE HARD REGARDLESS…
BUT THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO GET THERE STUFF TOGETHER..
THE WAY I WATCH THE RAIDERS IS
I Don’t… I WAIT FOR HIGHLIGHTS
THAT WAY I WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED
AND IF THEY GET LUCKY ENOUGH TO WIN
I CAN EXCITED ABOUT THE RAIDERS.
Should have never left Oakland . He sold the soul of the Raiders to greed and money to lost Vegas. That’s right lost . No Home Field Advantage. In Oakland Raider fans filled the the stadium . Now it’s filled with the other teams fans. I’ve been a raiders fan since AL Davis formed the Silver and Black and this move to lost Vegas was greedy and stupid . It’s not a football city and now he’s sucking up tom tuck rule brady . What happened to loyalty of being a Raider. If he wanted money he should have sold to Ronnie lott and company who wanted to keep the Raider in Oakland. Then him and brady could do their thing together. I’m glad for the times of the Oakland Raiders … the best years in my life… stop picking up players that made a name for themselves with other teams and get people who just want to play and be a Raider… still can’t believe they got rid of Carr… get cupp or Dorset. Get back to getting people other teams don’t want just like the old days you’ll be surprised with the outcome… and sell that stadium to the A’s and move back to Oakland or somewhere in California because California is RAIDER NATION… TUCK RULE my *** that was a Fumble … Greg and Charles made the play…
