Raiders Interim HC Rich Bisaccia Not Throwing Players Under the Bus, But Has “Gone After People Privately”

Raiders’ interim head coach Rich Bisaccia has taken some strong criticism in the last month, but Thursday’s must-win game in Dallas was the first indication in a while that the Raiders might be moving in the right direction again.

Bisaccia made some questionable decisions in terms of clock management against the Cowboys, particularly at the end of the first half, but Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter says Bisaccia has been doing things behind the scenes that are finally paying off in the win column.

“I’m going to tell you this. I thought a game ball should have gone to Rich Bisaccia,” Carpenter said this week on Las Vegas 920AM’s The Morning Tailgate with Clay Baker. “He has not thrown anybody under the bus publicly, but man has he gone after people privately and I think you’re seeing the Raiders respond to him.”

By some, Bisaccia has been viewed as a “players’ coach” that doesn’t necessarily demand the same kind of discipline as his predecessor. So to hear that Bisaccia is privately holding players and possibly coaches responsible for the Raiders’ three-game slide can be viewed as a positive.

The next test for Bisaccia and the Raiders will come on Sunday against a suddenly impressive Washington Football Team. It will essentially be another “must win” week for the Raiders and as everyone who follows the NFL knows… a new narrative is never more than one week away.

  1. I believe that’s how you handle things as a head coach, take your players and coaches to task behind closed doors! Public displays of yelling, screaming throwing tantrums when someone messes up never won any games as far as I can tell! The last thing the Raiders need amongst the off field chaos this season is on field chaos as well! Don’t mistake yelling at someone to benching someone, that I’m all for in game if a player is performing poorly in a given game!

    1. 3 pluse years Gruden couldn’t build a defense it sucks except Crosby the raiders can’t draft it all starts there jdr loves the raiders but not the answer who is who knows but we need to win we have Vegas and the best stadium I’m a raider fan my whole life go get the best coach avaliable. Dundirty utah.

  2. The interim head coach is in a tough position. Does he have the full support of the (53) man
roster? Does his fellow assistants really trust his leadership? Is team ownership looking for
a more accomplished guy like, “Riverboat Jack Del Rio” for a second try at the helm? And
at the same time, he has to call the shots right now for the team to make the playoffs or
not. This is not a very comfortable situation to be in.

    1. JDR fired Musgrave, kept KNJ and did nothing to make the defense better he’s a defensive coach. What has he done? Belicheat helps his defense why they are always good without great players

    2. JDR is not the answer.. The guy had a good OC and fired him, then kept Norton as DC, brought in a DISASTER at IC, then fired Norton late in the season..

  3. If Jack Del Rio gets another HC job in the NFL, the whole league should be canceled!!! I just hope you were kidding!

  4. All things considered, I think he has done a decent job and if he can somehow keep the players focused during the rest of season and they are in it til the last week with a chance to make playoffs then I could see giving him a chance. If Davis does go outside I would love to see him bring Del Rio back cause he had Raiders heading in right direction

  5. JDR fired Musgrave, kept KNJ and did nothing to make the defense better he’s a defensive coach. What has he done? Belicheat helps his defense why they are always good without great players

  6. Raiders should go get Cincinnati Bearcats coach a proven winner offensive mind. should give other players off the bench a chance they didn’t keep them for a reason. You might find a diamond in the rough I foresee another painful for 5 years ahead for the black and silver 🙁

    1. With all that had happened this season the Raiders still have a winning record and are in the playoff hunt. Don’t be so gloomy!

  7. I cringe at the thought of who Mark hires next will it be a retread, probably i can’t see him having the vision or football knowledge to hire a innovative, young ,talented coach.

  8. Bring a new offensive coordinator in asap. Rebuild the O line need a nice corner back. I’m thinking if Aaron rodgers wants to come what do we do!
